About the Artist
Priscilla Coote is known widely for her
large and luminous pastel landscapes.
One of her favorite subjects is the
almost-abstract forms found in rising
thunderheads and watery reflections.
She delights in observing the world cast
in mirrored light, reflection and refraction
in all its hours and seasons. She loves oil and pastel for their jewel-like colors, density of pure
pigment and variety of texture and surface possibilities, and uses them as the media of choice to
render a full range of effects from airbrushed-blended skies to sharply-etched tree branches.

She is equally drawn to watercolor for its ability to freeze a moment and a mood in time. It is the
perfect medium to take into the field to capture the magical fleeting light effects. She paints on
location solo and alongside other local artists, often in lively Key West and neighboring islands.
She was chosen to participate in the 2007 Plein Air Easton (MD) Natronal Competition, and was
part of the 2006 and 2007 Worldwide Paintout at Southwest Harbor, Maine.
She has painted en plein air in the U.S., several Caribbean islands, Paris, Australia, and even
from the top of Machu Picchu, Peru.

She has been an exhibiting artist and teacher for 30 years and holds a masters degree in art
education. Very involved in the Florida Keys art scene, Coote exhibits at the Gallery on Green in
Key West. She is a Signature
Member of Plein Air Florida, member of the Florida Watercolor
Society, and has just recently won the Wallis Award for Pastels in a National Exhibition, in addition
to taking many local awards. Her work is represented in collections across the U.S., and in Mexico
and Europe.
